Pinhole - Camera Store

Description

While looking around on the web I found some 4x5 pinhole wooden cameras for about 20 to 30, course not having the money (or like I need another camera :P), and still wanting to be able to shoot a pinhole larger than say 35mm I took an alternative route.

Found a beat-to-hell 6x9 pocket kodak series II (meaning it takes 120 film in the back instead of 620). Removed the lens (carefully so can probably be re-used in the future), the lens board area, and removed the bellows, and closed up the front door of the folding camera. Used the door for the pinhole location. Then covered it up in gaffer tape to ensure no light leak.

You can see a picture of the camera itself here (just a quickie digital shot, you get the idea).

The camera if it wasn't all stripped up as it was would have looked something like this.

The pinhole was pretty much created from taking a small piece of aluminum foil and pricking a hole into it, then taping it to the inside of the camera door. Based on some test shooting with cut kodalith sheets I determined the hole was giving an exposure of approximately f/256 if not closer to f/384.

The shot above.
Film: Kodak T-Max 100
Developer: Kodak HC-110 Dil.B 68F 6Mins
Exposure Time: 30 minutes
Location: Sitting on the back shelf of the "Camera Center" where I work in Grand Rapids, Mi.

The light leak on the right hand side should now be corrected since I removed the weaker masking tape and replaced it with the gaffer tape which you can see in the link above. So from now on the picture should be about the same but without that leak on the right.

The vignetting is from the opening in the front of the camera being smaller than the pinhole coverage behind the opening. I know this because the ring around it has some depth/texture so its basically taking a picture of the opening as well. I might decide to keep it that way, I kinda like the vignetting.
